Georgia is a country of endless discoveries. There are many reasons why traveling to this small country is genuinely worthwhile: untouched nature and wildlife, ancient cities, monasteries, centuries-old towers.

The program covered key topics such as digital challenges for guides, risk management, sustainable tourism challenges, and responsibilities on family tours.

Led by Director Alexander Mamulashvili, along with senior team members, the sessions included practical discussions and experience sharing, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality tour experiences.

1. 大コーカサス山脈 – ヨーロッパ最高峰の山脈

3. ワインの発祥地

ジョージアが誇るもののひとつは、最新の考古学的証拠によれば、8000年前にブドウの木が栽培化されワインが造られた土地であるということです。ブドウの木とワイン造りがジョージア人の精神、文化、伝統に深く根付いているのも当然です。

地中に埋めた粘土の容器「クヴェヴリ」でワインを造ることは、UNESCO（ユネスコ）の無形文化遺産として認められている独自のジョージアの伝統です

過去20年間、ジョージアではブドウ栽培が力強く復興し、多くの地域で大小のシャトーや家族経営の小規模ブティックワイナリーが、謙虚なワイン愛好家から世界的に有名なワイン鑑定家まで、訪問者を喜ばせ驚かせる準備ができています。それに、クヴェヴリで白ブドウ品種を発酵させることで生まれる、アンバーワイン（オレンジワインとも呼ばれる）は、美しく独特な色合いを持つジョージアの有名なワインです。味覚を研ぎ澄まし、喜びと歓楽に備えましょう。

5. ユネスコ世界遺産

人口400万人未満の小国であるジョージアには、豊かな文化遺産があります。これは、ユネスコ世界遺産によって認定・保護されているジョージアの遺跡の数に反映されています。これらの歴史的遺跡は、世界的な文化的重要性を持つものとしてユネスコ世界遺産リストに登録されています:

7. 独自の言語と文字

世界で500万人未満が話すジョージア語には、古代からの文学的伝統があります。ジョージア文字は紀元前3世紀に創られ、3つの異なる表記体系を発展させ、そのすべてが今日でも使用されています。この現象はユネスコによって認められ、無形文化遺産リストに含まれています。最古のジョージア語碑文は、ベツレヘム近郊の教会(紀元430年)と南東ジョージアのボルニシ・シオニ教会(紀元495年)で発見されています。ジョージア文字は美的に美しいと考えられています。

What Does This Mean for Travelers?

From January 1, 2026, every tourist entering the territory of Georgia must present a health and accident insurance policy that meets the following requirements:

• The insurance policy must be presented in physical or electronic form
• The policy must be available in Georgian or English
• The minimum insurance coverage must be no less than 30,000 GEL
• The insurance must cover the entire period of stay in Georgia, from arrival to departure
• The policy may be issued by a Georgian or foreign insurance company

Mandatory Information in the Insurance Policy

The insurance policy must include the following details:

• Parties to the insurance contract
• Covered territory
• Subject of insurance
• Start and end dates of insurance coverage
• Insured risks
• Insurance coverage amount (limits)
• Insurance premium amount, payment place, and payment terms

Important to Know

Tourists must ensure that their health and accident insurance is valid for the full duration of their stay in Georgia, including both entry and exit dates.

Who Is Exempt from Mandatory Insurance?

The following individuals are exempt from this requirement:

• Holders of diplomatic and special visas
• Holders of diplomatic, official, service, or special passports
• Accredited employees of diplomatic missions, consular offices, and international organizations, as well as their accredited family members
• Persons entering Georgia under international treaties or agreements
• Drivers involved in international road freight and passenger transportation

1. Telavi – The Heart of Kakheti

Telavi is the main town of Kakheti and the center of the region’s culture and wine industry. It has been inhabited since the Late Bronze Age and the town developed further during the Hellenistic period. By late antiquity, it had grown into a proper urban settlement.

In the 17th century, King Erekle II made Telavi the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti. During his reign, the town became a place of culture and learning, with schools, a theater and churches. Today, Telavi still shows this rich history.

The main attractions of the city are: “Batonis Tsikhe” (King’s fortress) with the museum inside, the town center, a 1000-year-old plane tree and small streets with different architectural styles. Don’t miss out on the farmer’s market, full of seasonal fruits and vegetables, Georgian spices, snacks and all the local produce.

The town is located on a slope of the Gombori mountain range and offers breathtaking views over the Alazani valley. Telavi is a perfect mix of history, culture and wine. It is a great starting point for exploring all of Kakheti.

2. Tsinandali Estate & Alexander Chavchavadze House-Museum

The Tsinandali Estate is located in the village of Tsinandali, Kakheti. It features the Alexander Chavchavadze House-Museum, a stunning garden and a distinctive 19th-century wine cellar.

The palace belonged to the Chavchavadze noble family. Alexander Chavchavadze, who was a poet, brought the first grand piano and a pool table to Georgia and flourished the palace. 

The Tsinandali Garden spans 18 hectares and was designed by European architects. It features exotic plants from around the world and the famous Alley of Love, where couples who walk blindfolded are said to have a happy relationship. 

The Tsinandali Wine Cellar, built in 1835, is one of Georgia’s first to bottle wine in the European style. It holds about 16,500 bottles and marks the start of modern European-style winemaking in Georgia.

Visitors can explore the main cathedral, a great example of old Georgian architecture. Inside, the frescoes are still bright and show saints and stories from the Bible.

The monastery grounds are quiet and full of history. You can see old mulberry trees and many old trees, which make the place feel calm. Many people enjoy walking around and looking at the vineyards and the Alazani Valley nearby.

Outside the monastery, you can also taste traditional Georgian yogurt – Matsoni, made fresh in the area.

4. Gremi Fortress – Kakheti’s Medieval Capital

A short drive from Alaverdi takes you to Gremi Fortress, the former center of the Kakheti region.

The citadel of Gremi is the only part of the once glorious city that survived, the archangel complex. Built by King Levan of Kakheti in 16th  century, it is beautifully decorated with frescoes. The fortress walls, even though partly ruined, still show how important Gremi was for defense.

Don’t miss out on the complex museum, which gives visitors a better understanding of what the town looked like and vividly shows the importance of Gremi on the Silk Road.

Walk along the citadel walls, now silent, yet once alive with farmers and merchants and try to imagine what life was like in 17th-century Gremi.

5. The City of Love – Sighnaghi

Sighnaghi town in Kakheti sits on a hilltop overlooking the Alazani Valley. This small town is famous for its pastel-colored houses, cobblestone streets and restored fortress walls (Sighnaghi Wall), giving it a European-style charm while keeping its Georgian soul. As you wander through the town, you can stop at local cafes and buy souvenirs. From the fortress walls, you can enjoy stunning views of the Alazani Valley, making the town even more picturesque.

Sighnaghi is often called the “City of Love”, as walking its quiet streets and dining on open terraces feels very romantic. The town also has a wedding house, so on your visit, you might even see a couple getting married, which adds to its charming and romantic atmosphere.

One of the must-see places in the town is the museum, which has quite a large collection of Niko Pirosmani art. Pirosmani, being one of the most famous Georgian artists, was originally from the surroundings of Sighnaghi.

When visiting Kakheti, Bodbe is a must-see place. It combines history, faith, and nature in one calm and inspiring setting where you can truly feel the spirit of Georgia.

7. Kakhetian Wineries – The Soul of the Region

Kakheti is the main wine region of Georgia, here, vineyards stretch across the Alazani Valley, surrounded by mountains and endless sunshine. The region is famous for its diverse grape varieties, including Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi, Mtsvane and many more, which are used to produce both modern-style wines and traditional Qvevri wines, made using an ancient Georgian method where the wine is fermented and aged in large clay jars buried in the ground. This natural process gives the wine a unique flavor and a deep connection to the land.

During the harvest season, usually in September and October, locals and visitors come together to pick grapes by hand. The harvest ends with a joyful Supra, a traditional Georgian feast filled with laughter, wine, and heartfelt toasts led by the tamada (toastmaster). Tables are covered with delicious Kakhetian dishes like juicy Mtsvadi (grilled meat), freshly baked Shotis puri (traditional bread), cheese, salads and Churchkhela, a sweet made from nuts and thickened grape juice.

Kakheti is home to many local wineries, both small family-owned cellars and large, well-known producers such as Khareba, Shumi, Kindzmarauli and Tsinandali Estate. Everywhere you go, you’ll be welcomed with warm Georgian hospitality, wine tastings and stories about winemaking passed down through generations.

8. David Gareja Monastery Complex in the Desert

David Gareja is a rock-hewn monastery complex located in the Kakheti region, about 1.5 hours from Tbilisi. It was founded in the 6th century by Saint David, one of the Assyrian monks and became an important spiritual and cultural center of Georgia.

The complex is famous for its stunning desert landscapes, colorful Rainbow Mountains and breathtaking views. The unique red and yellow tones of the hills come from natural minerals like hematite and limonite, once used in the monastery’s medieval paintings.

The main monastery, Lavra of David, is the easiest to reach. Inside, you can explore rock-cut churches, chapels, and the small cave where Saint David once lived. The area is also rich in wildlife and rare birds, making it an interesting destination for nature lovers.

David Gareja lies on the border with Azerbaijan and some parts of the complex are not accessible due to the border line.

Travel tips: Dress modestly as it’s an active monastery, bring water and sunscreen and watch your step in grassy areas.

9. Pankisi Valley – Hidden Between the Mountains

Pankisi Gorge is a remote and scenic valley in northeastern Georgia, near the border with Chechnya and Dagestan. Nestled along the Alazani River and surrounded by mountains, it is known for its stunning natural landscapes, with forests, rivers, and steep cliffs creating a peaceful and picturesque setting.

The gorge is home to the Kist community, an ethnic group of Chechen origin, who have preserved their unique traditions, culture, and hospitality for centuries. Visitors can experience local life, taste homemade dishes, and enjoy warm welcomes from the villagers.

Pankisi is perfect for travelers looking for off-the-beaten-path experiences, including hiking, nature walks, and discovering traditional architecture and historical sites. The area also offers insight into Georgia’s cultural diversity and its rich mix of traditions.

10. Vashlovani National Park – The Wild Beauty of Kakheti

Vashlovani National Park, located in southeastern Kakheti near the border with Azerbaijan, is one of the most unique and untamed places in Georgia. Often called the “Georgian Savannah,” it is famous for its dry, desert-like landscapes, cliffs and canyons that create views unlike anywhere else in the country.

The park is home to rare plants and wildlife, including leopards, gazelles, wolves and eagles, as well as ancient pistachio trees and steppe vegetation that have adapted to the harsh, dry climate. Walking through Vashlovani, you feel the sense of space and silence that makes it easy to forget the world outside.

The best time to visit is spring or autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the landscapes are at their most colorful. Vashlovani is a place to slow down, enjoy nature, and experience a side of Georgia that feels truly wild and untouched.

Explore Tusheti – Stunning Trails and Hidden Villages

Tusheti is one of Georgia’s most remote and untouched regions, known for its stunning mountains, medieval towers, and rich local culture. Trekking here takes you through traditional villages like Omalo, Dartlo, and Bochorna, offering a glimpse of centuries-old life in the Caucasus. The best time to visit is from June to September, when the weather is warm, trails are clear of snow, and alpine meadows are in full bloom. This period also gives you a chance to experience local festivals and meet villagers, making your trekking adventure even more memorable.

Tusheti is famous for its medieval stone towers and traditional houses, built high in the mountains for protection and community life. The towers, often rising several stories, were used both as homes and as defense against invaders. They are made of local stone, stacked carefully without cement, which makes them blend naturally into the landscape. The houses are simple yet strong, designed to endure the harsh mountain climate. Together, they create a unique atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time.

Trekking in Khevsureti – Fortresses and Wild Landscapes

Trekking in Khevsureti is an adventure through high passes, rivers, and hidden valleys, offering a mix of raw nature and historic villages. Travelers often carry tents, as camping by rivers and alpine meadows is common and allows for full immersion in the wildness. The routes can be challenging and remote, so going with an experienced local guide is highly recommended for safety, navigation, and learning about local traditions.

Abudelauri Lakes are a group of three stunning alpine lakes in Khevsureti, near the village of Roshka. Each lake has a unique color: one green, one blue, and one white – created by glacial origins and mineral-rich waters. Surrounded by dramatic Caucasus mountains, they are a favorite spot for hikers seeking untouched beauty. The trail to the lakes is considered one of the most picturesque routes in Georgia.

Trekking in Svaneti – Ancient Towers and Glacial Peaks

Svaneti is famous for its ancient stone towers, snowy peaks, and picturesque villages. Treks here pass through charming settlements like Mestia and Ushguli, where you can experience the unique local culture and traditional Svanetian life. The best time to visit is from June to September, when the weather is clear and the trails are accessible, offering stunning views of glaciers, rivers, waterfalls, and alpine meadows.

Mount Ushba, known as the “Matterhorn of the Caucasus,” stands at 4,710 m and is famed for its twin peaks and dramatic beauty. It is also one of the most challenging climbs in the Caucasus. Its striking shape makes it one of the most photographed mountains in Georgia.

While trekking in Svaneti, the valleys are carpeted with colorful wildflowers, creating a serene and fragrant landscape. Walking through these flower-filled meadows is a peaceful and uplifting experience.

The Adishi Glacier is a stunning natural wonder in Svaneti, tucked high in the mountains. While trekking nearby, you can admire its massive ice flows and sparkling blue crevices up close. It’s a breathtaking sight that showcases the raw beauty of the Caucasus. 

Explore Kazbegi – Iconic Peaks and Scenic Valleys

Kazbegi is one of Georgia’s most iconic trekking destinations, known for majestic Mount Kazbek, alpine meadows, and dramatic gorges. Trails lead you to famous landmarks like Gergeti Trinity Church, Juta village, Truso Gorge, and Mount Chaukhebi, offering breathtaking views at every step. The best time to visit is from June to September, when the skies are clear and the mountains are at their most stunning. Easy day hikes and longer treks make Kazbegi perfect for both beginners and experienced hikers.

Kazbegi offers some amazing trekking routes through mountains, rivers, and green meadows. Along the way, you’ll meet locals who live as farmers, tending to their animals and fields. The combination of stunning nature, peaceful trails, and friendly people makes every trek here unforgettable.

Trekking in Chaukhebi feels adventurous and powerful, with its sharp cliffs and rugged paths leading into wild, untouched nature. The higher you go, the more breathtaking the views become, opening up wide mountain panoramas. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel free, strong, and connected to the raw beauty of the Caucasus.

Truso Valley is famous for its colorful mineral springs and striking landscapes. While trekking, you’ll see streams and pools in shades of red, orange, and green, along with ancient towers and abandoned villages.

Trekking Tips – What to Know Before You Go

Best Season: June to September is the safest and most beautiful time for trekking in the mountains.

Weather Changes Fast: Always carry a rain jacket and warm clothes, even in summer.

Good Footwear Matters: Sturdy hiking boots are a must for rocky trails and long walks.

Stay Hydrated: Bring a reusable water bottle — mountain springs are usually safe for refills.

Local Guides: For multi-day treks, it’s best to hire a local guide who knows the trails and mountain passes.

Remote Areas: Many villages don’t have shops or ATMs, so bring cash and snacks in advance.

Connectivity: Phone signal can be weak in remote areas — let someone know your route before you go.

Respect Nature and Culture: Don’t leave trash, and be mindful of local traditions when visiting villages.

River Crossings: Trails often cross streams — waterproof shoes or sandals for crossings can help.

Transport Challenges: The roads to Tusheti and Khevsureti offer stunning mountain views but are among the most challenging in Georgia. For a safe journey, go with a reliable 4WD and an experienced local driver.

Wildlife & Shepherd Dogs: In the mountains, you’ll meet shepherds who look after their flocks and support local farming life. Their guardian dogs can be protective and sometimes aggressive. Walk calmly, avoid running, and carry a stick for safety when passing through grazing areas.

Reisen und Sicherheit in Georgien

Auf der Welt gibt es zahlreiche wunderschöne Reiseziele. Doch um Reisen dorthin wirklich genießen zu können, ist Sicherheit unerlässlich. Wer möchte in ein Kriegsgebiet reisen und ständig um sein Leben fürchten müssen?

In Georgien ist man dankbar, dass das Land, nach wie vor, als sicheres Reiseziel gilt und die Reisenden keinen unmittelbaren Gefahren ausgesetzt werden – auch wenn aktuell Zweifel an der Sicherheit bestehen. Diese Zweifel sind nicht unbegründet und wir werden diese Hintergründe nach und nach beleuchten.

Tiflis, die Hauptstadt Georgiens, gilt als eine der sichersten Städte weltweit und belegt Platz 44 von 380 Städten im Safety Index 2025. Besonders nachts ist der Sicherheitswert beim Alleingang hoch (70,9 Punkte).

Die georgische Bevölkerung ist bekannt für ihre Gastfreundschaft, was die Reise noch angenehmer macht. Beliebte Orte wie Tiflis, Batumi, Kutaissi oder Mestia sind lebendig und gut bewacht. Trotzdem sollten Reisende – wie überall – die üblichen Vorsichtsmaßnahmen beachten: nachts nicht durch schlecht beleuchtete Gegenden gehen, aufmerksam bleiben und öffentliche Verkehrsmittel mit Bedacht nutzen.

Unruhen und Demos in Tiflis / Ist Georgien politisch auch sicher?

Georgien gilt als eines der sichersten Länder Europas, auch wenn Medienberichte wegen russischer Besatzung anderes suggerieren. Rund 20 % des Landes (Abchasien und Südossetien) sind seit den 1990ern unter russischer Kontrolle. Solange man diese Gebiete meidet, besteht keine Gefahr.

Ein weiteres Thema sind Unruhen und Demos in Tiflis. Seit über 100 Tagen wird in Tiflis demonstriert. Die Demos richten sich gegen die Wahlergebnisse, gegen die sanfte Politik der Regierung gegenüber Russland und gegen die Verlangsamung der Euro-Integration. 

Im Winter wurde bei Demos teilweise auch Gewalt angewendet, von der sich das ganze Volk abwendet. Im Moment sind die Demos sehr friedlich und niemandem droht irgendwelche Gefahr. 

Wie in jedem demokratischen Land, finden hier auch Proteste statt, aber das heißt nicht, dass ein Besucher deswegen sich unsicher fühlen sollte.

Ukraine Krieg und Georgien 

Der Krieg zwischen der Ukraine und Russland wirft einen großen Schatten auf Georgien, denn Georgien ist ein Nachbarland von Russland und einige georgische Gebiete sind auch von Russland okkupiert. Wir verurteilen den Krieg, aber Georgien ist, was seine Sicherheit betrifft, in keiner Weise von diesem Krieg betroffen. Die Kampfeinheiten finden in der Ukraine statt und mit der Ukraine hat Georgien nicht mal eine Grenze.

Die Sorge, dass ein ähnlicher Konflikt auch Georgien unmittelbar bedrohen könnte, ist aktuell unbegründet.

Tiflis und andere Großstädte – beliebte Ziele für Reisenden
