Georgian Military Highway
North from Tbilisi and up through the Caucasus to the Russian border runs the famed Georgian Military Highway, celebrated by poets and feared by military leaders over many long centuries.

Explore Vardzia monastery
This monastery complex is the largest among the cave towns in Georgia. Wander through it’s refectories, sanctuaries,  tunnels, and cellars and visit the Church of Assumption, a true monument to Georgian artistic culture.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive in Kutaisi and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Kutaisi - Martvili Canyon - Prometheus Grotto - Kutaisi

The first morning of the trip to Georgia starts with waking up in ancient Kutaisi. 

We dedicate a short part of the morning for a walk in the central streets of Kutaisi, where the charm of the old city is felt especially.

Later, we drive to visit Martvili Canyon, which leaves an unforgettable impression on visitors. While boating or walking in the canyon we enjoy the beautiful mountain river valleys, waterfalls, and hiking trails.

Surrounded by the beauty of nature, we progress to take lunch with a local family, where we taste many new and diverse flavours with traditional dishes prepared in the family.

Afterwards, we visit the Prometheus Grotto, which is a distinctive natural beauty monument. 

Loaded with pleasant emotions, we return to ancient Kutaisi.

Day 3: Kutaisi - Gelati - Borjomi - Akhaltsikhe

In the morning, we visit Gelati Monastery. The centuries-old monastery with it’s beautiful paintings is deservedly included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Then, we take the road to Samtskhe-Javakheti. We visit the city of Borjomi, famous for it’s mineral water. While walking in Borjomi Central Park we can taste the legendary mineral water “Borjomi”. 

Later, we leave for Akhaltsikhe and will visit one of the most popular monuments, Rabat Fortress. It was the most important defensive structure in the region. 

Day 4: Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia - Paravani Lake - Tbilisi

In the morning we drive to Vardzia

Vardzia cave complex is especially large-scale among the rock-carved cities in Georgia and can be easily seen from afar. The monument of Georgian artistic culture of XII-XIII centuries is located in thirteen tiers. 

In the afternoon, we will take the road to Tbilisi. On the way, there is an amazing view of Lake Paravani, which is the largest lake in Georgia.

Today’s route ends in Tbilisi. Upon entering the capital we realise that this city is drastically different from all the cities we have seen so far.

Day 5: Tbilisi

After a late breakfast, we start our Tbilisi sightseeing tour to get acquainted with the city. Walking through the historical part of the city and enjoying the unique combination of cultures.

Meandering through the narrow streets of the city we will come-across various religious buildings: Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, Wooden houses built in the 19th century with colourful balconies, sulphur baths, the Narikala fortress.

Next, we take in the Georgian National Museum, where a great many intricate Georgian treasures are preserved. To finish up this introduction to the city we peruse Rustaveli Avenue which is the main central boulevard.

The rest of the day is left for exploring Tbilisi further, tasting wine in one of the many wine-bars, and getting acquainted with Georgian cuisine in one of the many great restaurants in the city centre.

Day 6: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Stepantsminda - Gudauri

In the morning, we will visit Mtskheta, which is the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia. 

In Mtskheta, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari Monastery built in the 6th century and the beautiful Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

The Jvari Monastery offers an amazing panoramic view of the city at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers.

Later, we will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, which is the largest historical building in Georgia among the survivors and leaves a great impression on the visitor.

In the afternoon, we follow the Georgian Military Road to Stepantsminda, which is one of the most spectacular routes in Georgia.

After arriving in Stepantsminda, famous for the Great Caucasus, we visit Gergeti Trinity Church.

With it’s special location and centuries-old history, it really represents the face of Georgia. 

In the evening, we will stay in Gudauri.

Day 7: Gudauri - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Chiatura - Kutaisi

On the last busy day of the trip, we will return to the ancient city of Kutaisi. 

On the way, we will visit the Stalin Museum in Gori. The museum complex includes the memorial house, where Stalin was born and spent his childhood, the exhibition building, and Stalin’s personal carriage.

In the afternoon, we will visit the cave town, Uplistsikhe. Uplistsikhe was a waypoint on the Silk Road, which passed here. It was one of the oldest settlements and urban centres in the Caucasus.

Our route passes Kutaisi to the industrial city of Chiatura. The journey is made mysterious by the rich nature with narrow valleys and large cliffs, Soviet-era architecture, ropeways, mines, and historical monuments.

On the way, we will see a religious monument with a special architecture – Katskhi pillar.  

A fantastic trip takes us back to ancient Kutaisi.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport and departure.

Additional information for this tour

  • Ladies require scarves in the Georgian orthodox churches, sometimes skirts too, but they can find some in the entrances.
  • Short trousers are forbidden in the church.
  • You can bring along: sun cream, hat, rain – and wind coats, etc.
  • For some program points comfortable shoes are needed.
