Sustainability Tour

After a late breakfast, we start our Tbilisi sightseeing tour to get acquainted with the city. Walking through the historical part of the city and enjoying the unique combination of cultures. Meandering through the narrow streets of the city we will come-across various religious buildings: Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, Wooden houses built in the 19th century with colourful balconies, sulphur baths, the Narikala fortress.

Next, we take in the Georgian National Museum, where a great many intricate Georgian treasures are preserved. To finish up this introduction to the city we peruse Rustaveli Avenue which is the main central boulevard.

The rest of the day is left for exploring Tbilisi further, tasting wine in one of the many wine-bars, and getting acquainted with Georgian cuisine in one of the many great restaurants in the city centre.

In the morning we take the road to the Kakheti region. This side of Georgia is considered the homeland of wine. However, apart from winemaking, Kakheti is distinguished by monuments of different periods and diverse nature.

Here we will visit the fortified town Sighnaghi, which leaves a special impression with its beautiful streets and distinctive natural location. We will walk along the cobbled streets with colourful houses and balconies, enjoy the amazing view of the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains and the vast valley of Alazani.

A visit to Kakheti is improbable without a local family lunch. The tradition of generously hosting a guest is especially felt here. The kindness of the hosts, the immediacy, the taste of home-made dishes and wine create special emotions around the table.

Then we will visit a family cellar in one of the villages near Telavi, where we will taste natural wines produced in clay amphorae (Qvevri) in the traditional method. The Georgian traditional method of making wine has the status of a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site.

Pleasantly drenched in wine, we continue our journey to the historic city of Telavi. At the end of the day, we take a walk through the central streets of the city, which have recently been restored.

In the morning we visit Telavi agricultural market. Various products are displayed on the open shelves: seasonal ripe fruits, healthy vegetables, colourful spices, cheeses, fresh meats, beaded garlic, or walnuts. Then we will follow the road to the marvellous Tusheti.

The days spent in Tusheti really become the culmination of our tour. Getting to know Tusheti starts from the road, which adds extra charm to the region with its beauty and extremity. This mysterious path seems to lead us into the clouds.

Full of extremes and positive emotions, we arrive in Tusheti – a region with beautiful nature, medieval defensive and residential towers, and unusual traditions. Unique cultural heritage monuments, ancient settlements, folk handicrafts, or items of ancient culture are still preserved in Tusheti.

We stay in the village of Omalo, which is the administrative centre of the Tusheti region. At the end of the day, we will visit the castle-village of Keselo, built in the 18th century. There is a cultural-ethnographic museum here, where the interesting exhibits of the region are preserved.

Today we will visit two fantastic villages of the region by car: Dartlo and Parsma.

The village Dartlo architectural complex includes castle towers, burials, and a church. The historic buildings of the village date back to the late Middle Ages.

Then we will see the village of Parsma. There are also several castles and towers, which artistically blend with the nature of the village. Slopes covered with cedars, poppies and chamomiles, slate-roofed houses, and old castle towers add to the fabulous beauty of Tusheti villages.

At the end of the day, we can get to know the culinary and cultural side of Tusheti. For dinner, we will taste traditional dishes. Tushetian songs will make the evening special. Tushetian folklore based on folk motifs organically merges with this earthly paradise.

The unique nature and the tranquility around us make our visit to Shenako and Diklo unforgettable.

Like other villages, Shenako village is located on a mountain slope. Side by side is the nineteenth-century church and the Tushetian shrine, where the icon’s days are still celebrated.

We visit the village of Diklo by car. This village is also another peak of emotions and impressions.

Seeing this beauty fills us with amazing sensations and leaves us feeling as if a centuries-old history is unfolding before us.

In the afternoon we will leave behind the flower-embroidered fields, bluish-green mountains, rocky outcrops, and return to Telavi.

We take the road to Stepantsminda, famous for the Great Caucasus. We will break off from the standard tourist route and find ourselves on a military road through historic Tianeti.

The Georgian Military Road is one of the most spectacular routes in Georgia. On the way, we will stop at the colourful Zhinvali Reservoir and visit the beautiful Ananuri complex.

During the trip, we can see flocks of sheep grazing on green slopes. After arriving in Stepantsminda we will visit Gergeti Trinity Church. With its special location and centuries-old history, it really represents the face of Georgia.

The green slopes decorated with mountain flowers and the great Caucasus leave an unforgettable impression on the visitor.

After a short drive from Stepantsminda we find ourselves in Juta.

A village far apart from modern chaos and the accelerated rhythm of life is undoubtedly an earthly paradise. The village is located at 2200 meters above the sea level and is cut off from the outside world for months due to snow.

We visit a local family and see the cheese-making process.The traditional folk rule of making cheese is especially well preserved in the mountain villages.

For lunch, we stop at a local family, where we will be treated by a mountain dish – Khinkali (dumplings). Khinkali is a dish that is one of the first to be mentioned when mentioning Georgian cuisine.

In the afternoon we will attend a felt-making master class. The old technology of wool and felt processing is well preserved in the mountains.

We will spend the night in Stepantsminda, surrounded by mountains and stars.

Our route continues through the military road to Mtskheta. On the way, we will visit a local family, which is famous for its small winery.

We will taste authentic wines made by combining ancient traditions and modern technologies. Here we will be served with traditional Georgian dishes. Homemade dishes go well with wines made in the cellar of the same family.

In the afternoon we visit Mtskheta. Mtskheta is the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia. In Mtskheta we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari Monastery built in the 6th century and the beautiful Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

The Jvari Monastery offers an amazing panoramic view of the city at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers.

Later we will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, which is the largest historical church building in Georgia among the survivors and leaves a great impression on the visitor.

At the end of the day, we will stay in old and at the same time modern Tbilisi.

Transfer to the airport and departure for home.
