Glacier or peak Kazbegi is the basis of many legends and myths. Conquering this glorious, snow-capped peak of the Caucasus will be one of the most memorable experiences of life.

Jvari Monastery 
The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jvari Monastery is located at the top of the hill and is the place where the missionary St. Nino herself erected a cross in the 4th century to mark the coming of Christianity to Georgia.

Tetu Peak (3,210 m.)
The glacier and the peaks of the Great Caucasus will make a special impression on us. If we are lucky and have clear skies, we will see snow-capped glaciers and other peaks of the great Caucasus on foot.

Mount Kazbegi (5,047 m.)
Mkinvartsveri (“Ice-Top”) – an inspiration for poets and writers, steeped in Greek myths and Georgian legends. Climbing this beautiful perpetually snow-covered peak of the Caucasus is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Tour schedule example

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive in Tbilisi and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Tbilisi

After a late breakfast, we start our Tbilisi sightseeing tour to get acquainted with the city. Walking through the historical part of the city and enjoying the unique combination of cultures.

Meandering through the narrow streets of the city we will come across various religious buildings: Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, Wooden houses built in the 19th century with colourful balconies, sulphur baths, and the Narikala fortress.

Next, we take in the Georgian National Museum, where a great many intricate Georgian treasures are preserved. To finish up this introduction to the city we peruse Rustaveli Avenue which is the main central boulevard.

The rest of the day is left for exploring Tbilisi further, tasting wine in one of the many wine bars, and getting acquainted with Georgian cuisine in one of the many great restaurants in the city centre.

Day 3: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Juta

In the morning we travel from Tbilisi to nearby Mtskheta and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Jvari Monastery built in the 6th century high up on the hill overlooking Mtskheta.

From Jvari Monastery we have an amazing panoramic view of the city with confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers.

In the afternoon we follow the military road, which is one of the most spectacular routes in Georgia.

This day ends in the marvellous village of Juta.

Day 4: Juta - Tetu Peak - Stepantsminda

A morning spent in Juta will be special for wildlife seekers. A village far apart from modern chaos and the accelerated rhythm of life is like an earthly paradise.

In the morning we will start walking to the first peak, Tetu Peak (3210 m).

Amazing panoramas are unfold during the hike. If we are lucky and have clear skies, we will see snow-capped glaciers and other peaks of the great Caucasus on foot.

At the end of the day, we will stay in Stepantsminda, which is the administrative center of the region.

(↑↓1250m, 7-8 hours, 16km).

Day 5: Stepantsminda - Meteorological Station

Early in the morning, at 06:00 we start the hike from Stepantsminda (1700 m) through the village of Gergeti to the Gergeti Trinity Church (2170 m).

From the church, we can enjoy beautiful views of Stepantsminda and the Great Caucasus Mountains.

Then we will continue our way to the meteorological station, which was built in 1933 (3680 m).

 (↑2000m, 8 hours, 14km).

Day 6: Meteorological Station (Acclimatization day)

The sixth day is dedicated to acclimatisation. After breakfast, we will walk near Meteo (4000 m) and return in about an hour.

After lunch, we will have 1-2 hours of basic mountaineering training. We will go to bed earlier because our hike starts at midnight.

Day 7: To the Summit

Early in the morning, at 02:00 we start the hike. The route is 12 kilometers and takes 13-14 hours to cover. The west road is narrow and leads in a north-westerly direction.

We will reach the glacier from the southwest. The second peak of Kazbegi can be seen from here.

Then begins a long, tiring hike on a snow-covered and icy mountain to the middle of the glacier.

A little bit later, the hike becomes easier, but the last 100 meters are quite difficult – we have to climb here.

After conquering the peak we return to the meteorological station filled with amazing feelings.

(↑1400m, 13-14 hours).

Day 8: Meteorological Station (Reserve Day)

If due to bad weather we could not climb the glacier the day before, we can try to conquer it again today.

In case of successful climbing of the glacier on the seventh day, we will relax on this day.

Day 9: Meteorological Station - Stepantsminda - Tbilisi

The ninth day is for making our way back. After resting we will start trekking in the direction of Stepantsminda.

In the afternoon we will have a transfer from Stepantsminda to Tbilisi.

Day 10: Departure

Transfer to the airport and departure.

Additional information for this tour

  • Ladies require scarves in the Georgian orthodox churches, sometimes skirts too, but they can find some in the entrances.
  • Short trousers are forbidden in the church.
  • You can bring along: sun cream, hat, rain – and wind coats, etc.
  • For some program points comfortable shoes are needed.
