Self-Guided Trekking Tour

On this day you will dedicate yourself to getting acquainted with Tbilisi. Walk around the historic part of the city and enjoy a unique blend of cultures. Walking through the narrow streets of the city you’ll discover various religious buildings: churches, synagogues, mosques, wooden houses built in the nineteenth century with colourful balconies, Sulphur Baths, the Narikala Fortress. Metekhi, Sioni, Anchiskhati – these are the names associated with old Tbilisi.

By visiting Old Tbilisi you will learn much more about this historic city. You will find a statue of the Toastmaster on Sioni Street, which holds the main artefact of the Georgian feast, a horn. This bronze monument is a replica of a figure discovered during archeological excavations in western Georgia.

The Toastmaster monument is an expression of traditional Georgian feasting culture and ancient wine culture. You can spend the evening pleasantly in a diverse Tbilisi, which will fully satisfy your interests.

Today you head to the semi-desert, located to the east of Tbilisi, which will surprise you with its amazing landscape and breathtaking space. You will see the rock-carved complex of Davit Gareja. This ancient complex dates back to the 6th century.

First, you visit Lavra Monastery, where the ancient caves are still preserved. Then you continue walking towards the desert monastery. You climb a steep path and reach the caves of a monastery carved in the Middle Ages. Completely unique frescoes are still preserved in the caves.

The panorama unfolding from here is especially impressive. The inaccessible fields of Azerbaijan and Karaya spread in front of you. You can enjoy the amazing landscape of the vast space for a long time. After a few hours of walk, you leave for Kvareli.

Today promises a different spectacle. Today you visit the protected areas of Lagodekhi, one of the best-preserved, primitive, wild natural landscapes in the world. Lagodekhi National Reserve is the first protected area in Georgia, it was established in 1912.

Before entering the city of Lagodekhi, at the beginning of the bridge over the river Ninoskhevi, turn right towards the village of Gurgeniani and follow the road to the end. The road is paved and leads to the villages. The last half kilometer is dirt-track. At the beginning of the path leading to Ninoskhevi waterfall, you’ll find an open field where it is possible to park your car.

There are also picnic areas and information boards. You head to the impressive waterfalls and on the way you’ll see the unique flora, which is quite a rarity in the Caucasus. You need to walk on the dirt path leading to the forest, as well as on the river bed.

The trail is fully marked. You will easily notice the marking lines on both the trees and the flood stones. When approaching the waterfall it is necessary to cross the river and it is desirable to have spare sandals with you.

At the end of the route, in a slightly muddy valley, in front of you, you’ll find the forty-meter-high Ninoskhevi waterfall rising above you. To see this beauty of nature was definitely worth a visit to the reserve. In the evening, you will return pleasantly tired to Kvareli.

You travel to the north of Georgia through the impressive Gombori Pass and the beautiful road of historical Tianeti. Turn off the standard tourist route and you will find yourself on the Georgian Military Road. The military road is one of the most spectacular routes in Georgia. You enjoy beautiful panoramic views while traveling.

On the way you stop at the colourful Zhinvali Reservoir and visit the beautiful Ananuri complex from the 17^th century. Stop near the Peace Monument near Gudauri to take a photo of the beautiful mountains of the Caucasus. The renovated building is one of the most interesting examples of Soviet modernism and is constantly in the spotlight due to its special location.

The view is amazingly large and impressive. On the way to Stepantsminda you’ll see flocks of sheep grazing on green slopes. After arriving in Stepantsminda, you pass the Dariali gorge – a place of dramatic beauty and walk to Gveleti waterfall. The trail leading to the waterfall follows a roaring mountain river and it feels like it takes you to the waterfall.

If you are lucky, you may even catch sight of a mountain eagle. Surrounded by giant cliffs, the Gveleti Valley is very impressive. The fifth day of the journey ends in Stepantsminda, surrounded by mountains, which landscapes will forever remain in your memory.

(↑↓300m, 1-2 hours, 4km).

In the morning you drive through the beautiful Sno Valley to the village of Juta (2165 m.). Narrow roads lead deeper into the mountain valley, where the exotic small village of Juta awaits you. This village amazes visitors with its ancient way of life preserved to this day.

Because of snowy winters, surrounded by beautiful mountains, Juta is completely cut off from the whole country for six months. A visit to Juta will be unforgettable for wildlife lovers. A village far apart from modern chaos and the accelerated rhythm of life is like an earthly paradise.

From Juta you start walking to the foot of Chaukhebi mountain (2550 m.). While trekking you will pass the amazing wildlife and you will see the beautiful mountain Chaukhebi (3842 m.). Filled with amazing impressions, you return to the village of Juta on the same way. In the evening you will stay in Stepantsminda.

(↑↓680m, 3-4 hours, 9km).

In the morning you drive to Sabertse Pass. From Stepantsminda (1700 m) drive to Gergeti Trinity Church (2170 m). From the church, you can enjoy beautiful views of Stepantsminda and the Great Caucasus Mountains. Leave the car in the parking area near the church and continue on foot to the pass.

Sabertse Pass is located on the classic route of the glacier. This time you will only climb the pass. From here there is an amazing view of the Great Caucasus. In the evening return to Stepantsminda, full of special impressions.

(↑↓1200m, 5-6 hours, 14km).

After breakfast, you follow the main road of the region by car and later you will start trekking in the virgin nature of Truso Valley. Continue walking in the beautiful villages of the valley, where the ancient towers are preserved.

Abandoned and empty houses give you an idea of ​​the old life of this valley. Especially beautiful and impressive is the walk in the Truso Valley. In the evening you stay in the ski resort – Gudauri.

(↑ 350m ↓240m, 3 hours, 14km).

In the morning you start a pleasant trekking from Gudauri and you will find yourself in the beautiful Khada gorge, which is surrounded by fascinating nature. The fields are embroidered with different species of flowers of intense colour.

The road will take you to the fifteenth-seventeenth century old small fortress of Khada and after a short walk you will find a small river. On the way you will encounter acidic waters. While trekking in beautiful nature, you will follow the descent, which will eventually lead you to the village of Qvesheti. Transport is waiting for you here. From here you drive to Tbilisi. You will spend the last evening of the trip in the capital.
